Senior Adults
Senior adults are an important and active part of our Weatherly family. Planned by a Senior Adult Committee made up of senior adults, our Senior Adult Ministry seeks to provide fellowship, activities, mission opportunities and a sense of belonging.
Fellowship
Our senior adults like to get together for food and fellowship. The third Thursday of each month they meet for a luncheon and a short program. Whether they have a covered-dish meal at the church or go to a favorite restaurant, the food is always great and the fellowship genuine. Our senior adults enjoy being together, and they know how to have a good time.
Travel and Recreation
Our senior adults like to go places and do things. They often schedule local outings and day trips to both new and familiar places. You can find them on day trips to many of the surrounding attractions and occasionally, they will spend a few days away such as a trip to Gatlinburg at Christmas.
Missions
Our senior adults like to share their time, energy and skills to help others. Many are involved in volunteer work in the community, such as Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. Others are involved in church ministries such as Respite Care, the Children's Home Group, and Helping Hands. Still others serve as deacons, Sunday School teachers, choir members, and committee chairpersons. In the past, our senior adults have adopted the local veteran's home where they provided fellowship and care for the men in that facility and they also adopted the Weatherly Heights Elementary School teachers, providing them with occasional snacks and goody bags. This year, the seniors are providing snacks for the homeless of Huntsville to be distributed by First Stop, a ministry to the homeless in our area.
