How to Join
Church membership at Weatherly is different from most Baptist churches. When our church began, the early members had a strong desire church membership not be perfunctory. They wanted meaningful church membership. This three-step process was started then.
Present yourself for membership. You may do this during a morning worship service by coming forward to greet the pastor. If you do not like being before a crowd of people, you may complete a form and give it to the pastor after the worship service.
Attend GUIDE Classes. GUIDE is an acrostic that stands for guidance, understanding, insight, discovery, and evaluation. In the five GUIDE classes, you will learn about the history of our church, the history and distinctives of Baptists, meet our lay and ministerial leadership, learn how our church functions, and discover opportunities for service and involvement. The classes end with a luncheon at the pastor’s home.
Be received into membership during a Receiving and Caring Service. During a worship service, you and the congregation will read our church covenant together. Then the congregation will give you a formal welcome: “We welcome you!”
